Nurse Administrator Excellence Award
Tracy M. Abrams, DNP, CPPS, NE-BC, CPHQ

  • CNO, Ambulatory Practice Services Kaiser Permanente, San Diego since May 2017
  • Holds board certification in patient safety
  • Created and implemented Safety University for Leaders, a transformation program that equips nurse leaders with knowledge and tools to apply safety science, lead and foster system-based thinking
  • Entered nursing profession as a second career, following active duty in the U.S. Air Force




Advance Practice Nurse Excellence Award
Eligio David P. Soliman, Jr., DNP, FNP-BC, CDCES

  • Is an Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner/Diabetes Care & Education Specialist
  • Is Clinical Associate Professor MEPN and DNP Program at USD
  • Has made significant contribution to the field of nursing, particularly in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and metabolism disorders.
  • He is the Chair of the Advanced Management of Inpatient Diabetes Program




Nurse Researcher Excellence Award
Christine Gonzaga, BSN, RN, CCRP

  • Is currently Clinical Research Nurse II at VA San Diego Healthcare System
  • Is currently involved as coordinator or back-up coordinator in several studies:
  • “Basal Cell Carcinoma Chemoprevention Trial”
  • “Preventing Liver Cancer Mortality through Imaging with Ultrasound vs. MRI”
  • “Investigation of Metformin in Pre-Diabetes on Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Outcomes
  • Works to improve patient care by providing evidence from research to enhance informed decision making and implement effective delivery of care for veterans




Nurse Educator Excellence Award
 Alex M. Mayo, BSN, RN

  • Actively teaches as Adjunct Clinical Faculty in CNA Program at SWC since 2007. Has assumed various roles within the program as needed, one being Assistant Professor.
  • His clinical expertise in Mental Health Nursing has resulted in him being recruited as a clinical instructor in the ADN Program at SWC.
  • Has been a member of PNASD for 4 years and has attended and participated on several committees, projects and conventions.




Clinical Staff Nurse Excellence Award
Neriza Lewis, BSN, RN

  • Currently Charge Nurse on DOU at Kaiser Permanente San Diego
  • Developed along with the Unit-based Team the “No One Walks Alone" initiative. This innovative and compassionate strategy was designed to reduce inpatient fall rates and foster a culture of patient safety. This initiative resulted in significant measurable decrease in patient falls through the hospital.
  • Actively participates in the Professional nursing Practice Council and works to uphold best practices through critical review and innovation.




Community Service Nurse Excellence Award
Adam Brotman RN

  • Graduated May 2024 from the ADN Program at Southwestern College

  • Currently working in the Emergency Room at Paradise Valley Hospital
  • Has documented 963 hours of volunteerism, of those hours:
    • 486 hours go toward the San Diego Association for Men in Nursing, of which is the President and Founder
    • 100 hours have been given to PNASD
  • Leads by example and has sparked interest in several members of Men in Nursing to volunteer their time to assist at many PNASD events




Novice Nurse Excellence Award
Justin De Francia, BSN, RN


  • Graduated May 2024 with ADN from Southwestern College and pursued BSN at Grand Canyon University.
  • Currently works at Arbor Hills Nursing Center coordinating patient care with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Assumed the co-lead position and responsibility of the planning committee for this award luncheon.  Was able to demonstrate his ability to organize, motivate and inspire the committee members to achieve collective goals.



Nurse Entrepreneur Excellence Award
Sandee Cruz San Mateo, MSN, AGCNS-C, PMHNP-BC

  • Is currently practicing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) at “Neuromatters and Wellness” in Chula Vista.
  • Established own practice “Neuromatters and Wellness” to bridge gaps in mental health care by providing accessible, evidence-based services to individuals in need.
  • Works to breakdown barriers, reduce stigma and support individuals on their mental health path.
